Box 226
Delta, CO 81416
lliitial Inspection ~i Recommendations
MlII£ Bench Stabilization
Dear Mr. Reschke:
INTRODUCTION
On November 6, 1984, an inspection was performed by personnel of
Rocky Mountain Geotechnical. This document represents the
observations and recommendations for continued construction
operations.
•
OBSERVATIONS
At the time of the inspection, the following observations were
made.
1. Removal of existing bench material and penetration into
colluvium to competent material within the excavated area
between approximate stations 5 + 00 and 3 + 40.
2. Two-foot penetration to claystone rock between approximate
stations 3 + 40 to 3 + 00.
3. Excess cut operations at toe of loose fill slope. These
operations appeared to have activated slide areas, causing
removal of material in excess of the original volumes. No
further excavation of the bench material should continue
into the slope above fill elevations.
4. Utilization of backhoe equipment to excavate toe area,
remove with Caterpillar dozer equipment, to front end
loaders and transported to desired stockpile areas. It was
observed that saturated material was being placed in a pile
located in the north-central area of the property and dry
• material excavated from the bench area was placed in the
stockpile at the south location of the property.
The Hallrun~l Sl.n ulin •'~L~;I I I'i 1. r:: I'~~.
