SHELTON, Director R~chdrrl D Lamm Governor September 8, 1983 TU: Bob Liddle FROM: Jiln Pendleton RE: Blue Ribbon Lo Col 1y's Respunse to Inspection Problem No. 047-83-15 On June 'LU, 19£i3, Roy Cox and I perfonned a partial geotechnical inspection of the Blue Ribbon mine site. As a result of that inspection, I noted Problem No. 041-83-15. "U 47-83-15. The operator must submit a proposed remedial treatment fur the mine portal bench landslide area prior to July 31, 1983. The remedial treatment must be accomplished prior to the end of the 1983 construction season." Further, in that same inspection report, I observed: "The operator should develop a remedial treatment for the affected portion of the bencYt. This remedial treatment should prevent environmental harm and hazard to public health and safety. A proposed remedial treatment should be submitted to the Division prior to July :tl, 1983. This remedial treatment should be accomplished prior to the end of the 1983 construction season." The operator's response, dated July 28, 1983, and received in our office Auyust 2, 1983, presents the results of their remedial efforts on the mine bench. They have completed four specific mitigative treatments: (1) Rerouted a sewer line, whose rupture had apparently worsened bench saturation. (2) Located and drained an old leach field, which had also contributed to bench saturation. (3) Extended the underground mine drainage discharge pipe across the bench and down its face.
