Long
Division Director
RE: Bourg Mine, Permit C-81-021
Annual Reclamation Report and Annual Hydrology Report
The DMG has received and reviewed the 1998 Annual Reclamation & Hydrologic
Monitoring Report submitted by the Flatiron Companies. We have reviewed the
information with the understanding that a final bond release application will be submitted
in the near future. With this in mind we have the following comments.
The vegetation monitoring data indicates success. None of the "raw" vegetation data
was submitted in the Vegetation Monitoring Report. For the final bond release
application we will be requesting the vegetation data for each cover and shrub density
[ransect. and the individual plot data for production.
2. A revised species diversity standard will be submitted by Flatirons. The stipulated
standard is not reflective of premining conditions, the reference areas or the reclaimed
areas with respect to the tninimum and maximum relative cover values.
3. The Annual Hydrology Report does not address a spring and seep survey. The DMG
has not observed any on-site, but [he presence or absence of springs and seeps should
be addressed in the bond release application.
4. The Annual Hydrology Report was reviewed by the Division. In general, there has
been a consistent pattern in the groundwater chemistry between [he wells and they
demonstrate anticipated trends.
If you have any questions regarding this letter, please feel free to call me.
Sincerely,
andra L. Brown
Environmental Protection Specialist
