Long
Division D~reaor
TO: Dan Mathews 6 October 1999
FROM: Jim Burnell
SUBJ: Roadside 1998 Annual Hydrology Report
1 have (finally) reviewed the 1998 Annual Hydrology Report for Powderhorn Coal,
Roadside/Cameo Mines.
I concur with your comments regarding what is there and what isn't. My opinion on the missing
data is that it is not critical from an interpretation standpoint. The data have been consistent
through the yeazs and the absence of these measurements probably hasn't caused us to miss
anything. Whether or not a bigger issue should be made of it from a regulatory point of view is ,
up to you.
The suggestion to look at quarterly data is well taken. In all cases it would enable the Division to
make more timely observations on hydrologic conditions requiring further attention or action. I
think it's a good idea, but as long as we have a requirement to review an annual hydrology
report, these things need to be brought together once a year to make that report.
One additional question anises. Laboratory analyses from UTL-02 (Table GD) show water with
a conductivity of 9600 umho/cm and a TDS of 759 mg/l. Something has to be amiss for those to
be so far apart.
Other than that, the AHR is okay.
