• Comment
3-10 - Report stated that seepage from the earthen dams was checked
by testing Ralston Creek water from paints opposite each
pond. These do not appear to be satisfactory sampling points
to check the seepage. Monitoring wells are planned to be
drilled to check for seepage from the ponds.
Response
This pertains to the NP DES permit which is outside of the
scope of this application.
Comment
3-14 - The Colorado Department of Health Air Pollution Control
Division should evaluate the air pollution aspects.
Response
An emissions permit for the ore sorter was issued by the AP(:D
on March 22, 1979.
Comment
• 6-1 - More detailed information is needed concerning decontamina-
tion and disposal of waste material and equipment which is See Sec. 6.1
shipped to the mill. Capacity of the tailing ponds and
method of disposal at the mill site should be included in
the application.
Response
There will be approximately 1200 tons of waste. This is thEa
equivalent of 3 days' output from the mine and can be easily
accommodated by the mill. The tailings impoundment has a
design volume of 7,550 acre feet.
Comunent
As mining progresses and more mine water is discharged,
what are the plans for handling this increased volume of
water?
Response
No response necessary, as it pertains to the discharge permit
for the mine. The assumption that more mine water will be
produced as mining progresses is invalid; no significant
• change in the water volume discharged into Ralston Creek is
anticipated for the remaining mine life.
JC-3
