Four States Aggregates, LLC
P. 0. Box 1568
CORTEZ, COLORADO 81321
(970)565-3388
May 20, 2002
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Suite 215
DENVER, CO 80203
(303)866-3467
SUBJECT: 2002 ANNUAL FEE AND REPORT FOR M-1990-025 (HAY CAMP PIT)
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen:
Enclosed is the Annual Report form for the Hay Camp Pit, M-1990-025, formerly
Gardner Pit No 2A, for the reporting year ending May 22, 2002, with a map and the
annual fee.
Since May 2001, mining continued as in the past, without any significant breaks in
operations. A mild winter with little precipitation allowed operations to continue almost
without interruption. At present, 29 acres has been affected and not reclaimed and
released. The plant was relocated to the west, and stockpile areas changed slightly. In
addition to the 6-acre area reclaimed and released in the Spring of 2001, additional
areas have been reclaimed. This includes the "tail" in the southeast corner of our permit
area, which overlaps between our permit and Permit M-1985-172 (held by Montezuma
County), and the former scalehouse area located to the south. However, the lack of
moisture has slowed revegetation, and no areas appear to be ready for release this
year.
Much of Four States Aggregates mining and reclamation activity, as shown on the map,
has been in areas located within Permit M-1985-172 in exchange for areas to be mined
by the County within our permit boundary. These areas being mined by the County are
shown in the report, as well as areas outside our permit boundary which are being or
have been reclaimed.
Either accompanying this report or submitted separately is an application for permit
amendment to expand the permit boundary and affected areas of this permit to include
additional lands, as discussed, to include all of Permit M-1985-172, pursuant to an
agreement between Four States Aggregates and Montezuma County. That application
will include plans for 2002-3 and beyond for mining and reclamation by both entities,
under the overall responsibility of Four States Aggregates. We are presently finalizing
