'1
ANNUAL REPORT
Operator: United Companies of Mesa County
Operation: Corey Gravel Pit
File Number: M-1987-024
Anniversary Date: April 17, 2002
This pit was active during the past year. Gravel storage and sales were performed during
the year. Approximately 2 acres have been sloped and graded at the southwestern corner
of the disturbed area. Product stockpiles remain on the permit area. The stockpiles
remaining on site contain CDOT Class 6 (3,000 tons) and CDOT Class 2 (7,000 tons)
road base.
Mining at this permit has been completed. The last active mining area, located at the
south part of the permit, has been graded to final slope and configuration.
Reclamation of the site will continue this year with installation of a French Drain, at the
toe of the slope that was last excavated at the site, to collect and control waste water that
is appearing in this area. The grade of the pit floor will be matched to that of the
surrounding floor in this vicinity.
Mr. Corey, the property owner and holder of Reclamation Permit M-1987-024, has
discussed future plans that he has contemplated for mining at the site in the future. Mr.
Corey has expressed interest in either converting Permit M-1987-024 to a 112 Permit or
obtaining a new Reclamation Permit. There are additional gravel reserves located in the
ridge that has been the site of mining in the past.
