UPDATE 2000: The changes from 1999 were not very great.
Slightly more land is included in the mining category due to some expansion on
the extreme south end of the site. However, there was also some reduction in
mining extent elsewhere. The amount of reclaimed land has been reduced
because of the storm damages that occurred in 1999. That adjustment was not
made last year. Very little else changed.
Following is an inventory of the acreage of the various parcels of land shown on
this map. (NOTE: Acreages were calculated using a different computer program
than waz the caze in 1999 and therefore are slightly different from 1999 even
though the on-the-ground area has not changed significantly.)
Map Category Acreage
Total Affected Land (this map only) 110.04
Previous Reclamation 9.7
Mining 11.0
Topsoil Stockpiles 2.9
UPDATE 200]: The mapping base has been changed to an Au[oCad
format and utilizes the map produced co do the layback plan which was
approved on March 15, 2001. One of the advantages of this system is that it
shows the entire permit area. For the pazt several years the most easterly
portions of the permit, which have not changed much, were not shown.
Map Category Acreage
Total Affected Land 128.5
Active Mining (extraction only) 13.7
Revegetation 28.74
In Quarry 13.1
In Support Lands 15.64
Topsoiling 6.3
Topsoil Stockpiling: Topsoils are continuing to be contributed to this operation from
various projects throughout the northern part of Colorado Springs. This soil is being
gathered through the combined efforts of the CMRF and Castle Concrete. Much of the
reclamation done during the last year utilized some of this soil and although it is still too
early to determine the compatibility of the soil with the site, initial assessments indicate a
Castle Concrete 2001 Annual Report M-77-211 Pikeview Quarry Page 2 of 5
