Canany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
I have completed an initial review of the 2004 AHR for Seneca II-W. As usual, the report was
thorough and comprehensive. Monitoring appears to have been conducted in compliance with
permit specified schedules at approved sites, and the report includes appropriate data
presentation and discussion/evaluation of observed compliance with relevant standards and PHC
projections.
The report narrative was properly updated this year to reflect PHC projections as revised by PR-
3.
The necessary replacement wells for the wells that had failed or were otherwise abandoned in the
last couple years were drilled in September 2004. Data for the replacement wells was not
included in the 2004 report, but should be included in next year's report. Dennis Jones indicated
during my last inspection, that he would be submitting a Technical Revision information shortly, to
officially incorporate the new wells into the permit, with the required completion information. A
final attempt to seal the failed wells below Pond 016A will be undertaken this summer.
As in previous years, there are a few exceedances of water use standards at several sites, for
various parameters. Also, a few of the wells had TDS values that exceeded PHC projections. I
will let Mike evaluate the significance of those exceedances.
Please request Mike Boulay to do the PHC compliance review.
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
