A
RECEIVES
COTTER OCT 2 2 20"I
October 3 , 2001
Division of Minerals and Geology
Division of Minerals and Geology
Department of Natural Resources
Attn: Petrina Mazza
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Subject: SM-18 Annual Report
File No. M-1978-116
Dear Ms. Mazza:
The SM-18 Mine is located in Montrose County and operates under a
112 permit with a permitted acreage of 14 . 9 acres. This mine does
not have a phased reclamation plan.
During the past report year, reclamation work was performed on some
of the mine and surface structures, as listed below:
• The vent hole fan was removed and the vent hole plugged.
• A bulkhead was installed in the decline and the decline was
backfilled with material from the waste dump.
• The portal area was regraded to more closely resemble the
original contours.
• The mine waste dump was regraded to a 4: 1 slope, material from
the topsoil stockpile was spread over the waste dump, and the
waste dump was ripped along the contours and pocked in several
areas to provide erosion control.
• The liner in the evaporation pond was removed and the surface
runoff to the east of the topsoil stockpile was directed into
the pond, which can now serve as a wildlife/stock pond.
• The mine shop/dry building was not removed at this time, as we
are still optimistic that it can be used to supplement the
mining of a different orebody on this property at a later
date.
No additional disturbance is anticipated for the next report year.
A new map is enclosed, reflecting the reclamation that has been
completed this year.
The sufficiency of the financial warranty for the above captioned
permit has been reviewed by Cotter Corporation and was found
sufficient to cover the remaining reclamation costs associated with
this property.
Cotter Corporation Telephone(970)864-7347
West Slope Operations, P.O.
