Box 1149
Carbondale, Colorado 8 L 623
Re: New mine plan for Blue Pit, MLRB permit A M87-207
Dear Bill:
9 7.94 II I'' II I II' II IIII'll
P.02
16 February 7999
In compliance with your request, we ere in the process of preparing a revised tine plan of
the Blue ?it, north of Carbondale, in Garfield County. to be submitted as a Technical
Revision to the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology.
We have established our GPS survey model network for the area and have surveyed the pit
and immediate area for the Dreparetion of ari "existing conditions" map of the operations. .
A 2 foot contour interval map is being prepared which wilt define the existing pit and the
topsoil and overburden stockpiles. as well as the haul road and existing irrigation ditches.
From this data vve will be able to compute the remaining gravel reserves which can be
recovered in order to reclaim the area with 3 horizontal to 1 vertical final slopes. The
reserve calculations will consider tfie maximum use of the inpface and stocxpiled
overburden for ;he slope restoration.
Milting operations to accomplish the recovery of the remaining gravel reserves will be
planned in phases to minimize relocation of overburden soils.
While vve are making progress with this work, 1 do not believe that it will be possible to
have it L:ompiete and ready for submittal by ;he end of this month, as requested an the
inspection report dated 70 December 1998. i therefore recommend that you request an
extension of time for the submission of the Technical Revision until April 1, 1999.
It you have any questions, please tail.
espe tfully,
~ J ome F. Ga j '
~~ '
