'
- 22 -
1
Water levels will be measured on a monthly basis and
water quality samples will be collected and analyzed accord-
ing to the regulatory agencies' requirements.
' S.2 SAMPLING AND TESTING OF FOUNDATION MATERIAL
t Material properties for the foundation material beneath
the waste rock pile have been developed from sampling and
testing performed during investigations for other structures
in the vicinity of the pile. While the uniformity of foun-
dation conditions throughout the area results in a high de-
' gree of confidence that the strength values used will be
representative of the foundation conditions beneath the pile,
' we recommend that this be verified by additional sampling
and testing from the immediate vicinity of the pile.
The sampling and testing program will be carried out
' most efficiently in conjunction with the ground water moni-
toring program. Suitable samples will be obtained from the
two borings which will be installed for ground water moni-
' toring and permeability testing. Since both these borings
will be slightly outside the toe of the pile, one additional
' boring should be located in the central part of the pile.
Testing will consist of suitable index tests to enable
accurate classification of the soils and comparison with
' other samples from the general vicinity of the pile which
have been tested previously. A set of triaxial compressive
strength tests should be performed on "undisturbed" samples
which are representative of typical foundation conditions.
1
~o+iroRO coKSUinNC, iwc.
