Review of Refuse Pile & Pond Reports
July 19, 1995
Page 4
level of sediment in the pond.
Compliance and Adequacy Questions
1. The pond inspection reports are done on a quarterly basis as
required and general information about the pond is provided as
required. However, a specific level of sediment is not
included in the report; only general information regarding
where sediment has accumulated and a recommendation to clean
the pond is included. I assume that the pond designs specify
a maximum sediment elevation. While the general information
provided in the report regarding sediment in the pond is
useful, the inspection report should reference the maximum
elevation identified in the pond design. In future pond
inspection reports, EFCI should identify the amount of
sediment in the pond compared to the maximum sediment
elevation specified in the pond design.
2. it appears that a majority of the time, the engineer's
recommendations regarding pond maintenance is disregarded
because the same recommendation appears in subsequent reports.
EFCI should comment.
EFCI should provide responses to the above questions by August 31,
1995. Please call if you have questions.
S
Christine E. J~n~ton
Environmental ro ection Specialist
CEJ/014REP01.1
