Map IU-11, which is attached, has been modified to show <br />the present sampling points and moisture conditions in the mine. Also, <br />Map IV-11 has been updated to show the extent of mining since the last <br />study. The way in which water is handled in the mine is similar to the <br />manner presented in the prior study, i.e. gravity flow in western parts of <br />the mine and gravity flow augumented by pumping in the eastern parts of <br />the mine. However, two new sumps have been created which makes it <br />impossible to obtain readings from the exact locations presented in the <br />prior study. Those sumps are in the northern and eastern portions of the <br />mine. For example, the northern sump, which is the main mine sumo. has <br />flooded approximately 85 acres which automatics y e iminates this and the <br />adjacent area from the study. <br />The survey was conducted by traveling along all of tFie accessible main <br />entries and noting the presence of measureable flows of water. Where <br />submains intersected the mains, the flows from the submains were isolated <br />and noted on the map. If the flow was substantial it was traced to its <br />source unless safety was prohibited. By far the largest single source of <br />water to the No. 5 Mine is from the first two of three normal faults <br />encountered in the second west section of the mine. These faults, plus <br />flow from the west, are producing approximately 392 gpm. <br />During the course of the study measurements were obtained by using a 1", <br />4", or 8" cutthroat flume, or where conditions allowed, a 5 gallon <br />container and stop watch. At the time of measurement a water sample was <br />obtained and was analyzed for temperature, pH, and EC. The temperature <br />was taken at the time of sampling, while the Ph and EC analysis were <br />performed at CT&E's laboratory located at the mine. <br />In the eastern portion of the mine there are no measured significant <br />sources of water. The water that is made is pumped to the mine's main <br />sump. It is assumed that this water is being made at mine faces. <br />However, this cannot be proven due to mine conditions. <br />At this time the No. 5 Mine discharge is measured in two ways. The first <br />being totalizing meters set on each of the No. 5 Mine's pumps. The second <br />being a 12" cutthroat flume installed in the discharge :stream. The meters <br />give a total discharge record, while the flume provides an instantaneous <br />reading. Both are monitored on a weekly basis. Of the two, the meters <br />provide a better record of the discharge. The discharge record obtained <br />
