Backfilling: Two different backfilling actions have been taken in the last year. First, with the
prodigious amount of overburden available, the Finger Lake area was totally backfilled to an elevation
that should allow much of [hat area to become an emergent wetland. Second, slope reconstruction is
being done elsewhere in anticipation of changing the sealing structure from a compacted berm to a
slurry- wall. No action will be taken to install a slurry wall until about spring 2002. A permit revision
will be submitted co make that change prior to the slurry wall being installed.
Annual Report Maps: The annual report maps include four maps this year. The format of the maps is
the same for the south side of the river as it was last year. A change in format was used for the map on
the north side of the river. That map is now being produced in AutoCad and measurements are being
taken using GPS receivers and a grid overlay on the map. The acreage information is the same except
that, where appropriate, an indication is given as to whether the acreage is bonded or released.
Year 2000 Anticipated Activity: Mining will continue primarily in [he central and northern part of
the Amendment area. Monitoring of the revegetation program will also continue and additional
adjustments made as indicated by examination. It is not expected that any additional reclamation of
currently disturbed land will occur in the next year, other than continued backfilling of the west end
lake with sediment from washing operations.
Transit Mix of Pueblo 2001 Annual Report M-1977-573 Pueblo West Pit Page 2 of 2
