from prior water yeazs. These constituent levels bear further observation. It is interesting
to note that the increases in these constituent levels occurred above and below the mine,
without a corresponding increase at the mid-mine well. This distribution does not limit or
suggest potential explanations for the elevations in constituent concentrations, but appears
to point to sources other than the Carbon Junction Mine, if the trend continues.
SEDIMENT POND INSPECTIONS AND DISCHARGES
The Carbon Junction Mine has two sediment ponds, 001 and 002. Shawn Price of
Oakridge Energy inspected both sediment ponds during the second (February 11), third
(June 8), and fourth (August 21) quarters of the 2000 water year. As reported earlier, no
quarterly inspection documentation was filed during the first (October-December 1999)
water year quarter. Sediment pond inspection reports are included for the 2000 water
year. No significant concerns were identified during the inspections.
Neither sediment pond discharged during water yeaz 2000 as reported on CDPS discharge
monitoring reports. Reports for the 2000 water year are appended to the end of this
report. The stormwater management plan report to the Colorado Department of Health
and Envvonment is being sent under separate cover.
•

-8-
