2004 ,annual Reclamation Relx~rt
Snuth6eld Mine
March 14, 2005
Page 2
- Sprayed minor occurrences of whitetop in one area neaz the reclaimed substation fil area
(see Weed Control Activities, below)
- Cleaned debris from culvert entrances, as necessary, and checked condition of culvert
`elephant tube' structures
- Installed two rock check dams to mitigate erosion, along east edge of the county road,
between the utility building and entrance to Pond 5
Map 1, Mine Site Reclamation, portrays the general location, dates, and areas of revegetation
and reseeding in and adjacent to the former Mine Facilities area. In addition, the map indicates
the locations of Mine Site reclamation activities completed during 2004. Dates of revegetation
and/or reseeding for the ancillary facilities areas and the Loadout area are shown on Map 2,
Ancillary Facilities Areas Reclamation, and Map 3, Loadout Area Reclamation, respectively.
Disturbed, Backfilled, and Topsoiled Areas
No additional areas were disturbed, backfilled, or topsoiled during the reporting period.
Seeded or Planted Areas
Interseeding on approximately 13 acres at the Mine Site, comprising lands owned by the Corley
Company, was completed at the end of October. EFCI previously seeded and mulched this area
during site revegetation activities in October 2003. Due to the difficulties in dealing with the
changing wishes and needs of two landowners concerning seed mixes, EFCI applied an incorrect
seed mix on the Corley property in 2003.
In order to correct the seeding (seed mixture) on the Corley property, EFCI submitted a plan to
the DMG proposing interseeding of the grass species Indian Ricegrass and Beardless Bluebunch
Wheatgrass. Upon approval, EFCI broadcast seeded the referenced azea at a rate of 1.4 and 3.1
pounds PIS/acre of Indian Ricegrass and Beazdless Bluebunch Wheatgrass, respectively. A wpy
of the tags from the seed used for the planting is attached hereto for reference.
EFCI planted shrub clumps in the reclaimed facilities and refuse disposal areas at the Mine Site
in accordance with permit requirements and in response to landowner concerns. Prior to starting
the work, EFCI discovered that the required One-seed junipers were not available. Based on
discussions with the DMG, substitution of One-seed junipers with Rocky Mountain junipers was
suggested. A minor revision (MR-53) for the species substitution was submitted and
subsequently approved by the DMG.
