• Clipped material was returned to the ESCO laboratory and dried at 105 °C for 24 hours, then <br />weighed to the nearest 0.1 gm. <br />Shrub Density Sampling <br />Shrub density sampling was undertaken in all reclamation areas, and the two reference areas. <br />Shrub density in reclaimed areas was measured within 2 x 50 m quadrats ("belt transects°) <br />oriented along the cover transect (where a cover sample was also taken). Shrub density <br />sampling intensity in the reclaimed areas was in some cases greater than cover sampling, so <br />that in addition to the ten to twenty shrub density samples taken along the cover transects, up to <br />thirty (30) more were located independently, making a total of as many as fifty (50) such <br />samples in reclaimed areas. Additional shrub density plots were located randomly as previously <br />discussed.
