• INTRODUCTION
Quantitative sampling of reclaimed areas on the Peabody Western Coal Company (PWCC) Seneca
II Mine was undertaken in July 1992 by ESCO Associates to facilitate Peabody's continuing
monitoring of the progress of these areas in relation to revegetation performance standards.
Methods, sample areas, and sample sizes were those specified by Peabody.
METHODS
Reclamation Units and Sampling Locations
Reclamation sampling units are shown on Map 1, "1992 Revegetation Monitoring and Sampling
Map'. The Seneca II Mountain Brush and
• Sagebrush Reference Areas were also sampled.
In addition to sampling of the above reclaimed units, thirteen small shrub planting areas were
intensively sampled for survivpl of woody plantings. These areas are identified on Map 1 as
Shrub Density Area No. 1 (1989 Wadge Reclamation), Shrub Density Area No. 2 (1986 Wadge
Reclamation ), Shrub Density Area No. 3 (1989 Wadge Reclamation), Shrub Density Area No. 4
(1989 Wadge Reclamation), Shrub Density Area No. 5 (1989 Wadge Reclamation), Shrub
Density Area No. 6 (1989 Wadge Reclamation), Shrub Density Area No. 7 (1986 Wadge
Reclamation ), Shrub Density Area No. a (1989 Wadge Reclamation), Shrub Density Area No. 9
(1989 Wadge Reclamation), Shrub Density Area No. 10 (1989 Wadge Reclamation), Shrub
Density Area No. 11 (1989 Wadge Reclamation), Shrub Density Area No. 12 (1989 Wadge
Reclamation), and Shrub Density Area No. 13 (1989 Wadge Reclamation).
