i
• Subsidence Report •
Year End, 1989
Background: Previously, the Foidel Creek has utilized room and pillar
mining methods, and the subsidence resulting from this type of mining has
been documented and submitted to the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation
Division, Presently, longwall mining techniques are utilized at the mine,
and this report presents the first set of subsidence data from tl~e area that
has been undermined by the longwall.
Current Data: Tlie longwall was put into service on September 26, 1989,
and through the period of December 31, 1989 advanced approximately 1350
feet. The survey data from the subsidence monuments overlying this mined
out area indicate that approximately 3.2' of subsidence has occurred. The
monuments detecting this degree of subsidence are located over the
centerline of the panel. Throughout the subsidence monitoring network the
amount of measured subsidence ranged form 0.1 to 3.2 feet. The data is
presented on the attached table and visually represented on the attached
cross section.
Conclusions: As planned, subsidence is occurring over the first longwall
panel. Given the isolated location of the mining, no structures leave been
impacted by subsidence, nor has material damage occurred in the area. As
mining progresses up the hill an old farmstead will be subsided.
