Cover Crop
All long-term topsoil stockpiles have been planted with the approved cover crop seed
• mixture. The topsoil windrows north and south of BB Road, east and west of 27.00 Road
are temporary in nature (<180 days) and so will not be seeded with a cover crop.
New Field Seeding
The 2005 new field seeding consisted of both irrigated pasture and dryland pasture for a
combined total of 21.08 acres. Seed mix #5 was applied at 35 PLS/acre on the irrigated
pastureland. Seed mix #8 was applied for dryland pasture at two different rates, 18# and
35# PLS/acre. The 18# rate was applied on a-moderate slope/hilltop areawith better water
retention. The 35# rate was applied on a 5:1 slope with higher runoff and greater erosion
potential. Exhibit 2005-4 denotes the locations of the aforementioned areas. To assist in
the seed establishment and soil stabilization; QUICKGUARD (a sterile, ground stabilizing
hybrid) was co-planted with the approved seed mixes at a rate of 50 pounds/acre.
Revegetated Land Fertilizer Rates and Pasture Yields
Fertilizer was applied in the spring of 2005. NH1 and NH2 fields are depicted on Exhibits
2005-1 and 2005-9 respectively where the mixes were applied. Rates varied from 0 to
3001bs/acre. Two type's fertilizer mixes were used: 1) a 50/50 blend of 34-0-0 and 18-46-
0, and, straight 34-0-0. NH2 first cut yields varied from 689 Ib/acre to 4,168 Ib/acre
(Exhibit 2005-11), depending on the amount of, fertilizer used, and frequency of irrigation.
New Horizon Mine did not harvest in the NH1 area.
Weed and Pest Control Activities
• Noxious weed control was carried out in the month of May, 2005. Target species for
weeds were Russian Knapweed, Canada Thistle, White Top, and Western whorled
milkweed. Spot spraying was done at NH2, see Exhibit 2005-5. The treated sites were
small and random in nature and too small to accurately plot on a map, however, the
general areas are depicted.
BackCountry Weed Management, Colorado License # 11410, of Norwood, CO, treated
noxious weeds. The principal weed herbicide was Tordon 22KT"'. The chemical
application rate was approximately 2 quarts/acre. A surfactant and a marking dye were
used with the weed herbicides to maximize spray effectiveness.
Label requirements, recommendations, and conditions were followed for all chemicals used
in the control programs.
There was no pest control activity conducted in the 2005.
Acres in Long-Term Mining or Reclamation Facilities
As shown in Exhibit 2005-13, 63.67 acres are currently held in long-term mining or
reclamation facilities.
Acres in Active Mining Areas
As Exhibit 2005-3 indicates, the 2005 active mine area disturbance was 103.78acres. This
• Exhibit includes leftover disturbance from prior years and is not considered to belong term
disturbance.
Acres Seeded/Planted for the Last 10 Years or more
