No.: Primary Refuse Disposal Area
Inspection Period: First Quarter 2003
Inspection Date: 03/06/03
General Description or Reference to Site Plan:
Raton Creek Mine is in final reclamation. All required structures have been removed,
the area brought to final grade, mulched and seeded. Areas of lesser vegetation
density were inter-seeded in 2000.
Activity During Inspection (Including General Observations):
Area was inactive thoughout the quarter. Tho silt accumulation has been partially removed from
the adjacent sediment pond. Vegetation was sparse due to draught conditions in 2002
and unrestricted grazing by the surface owner's cattle. Minor erosion on the south and west
facing slopes continues with some of the contour ditches blocked or breached by sediment
accumulation.
Drainage: (Discussion of springs. seeps, overland and channel flow, underdrain construction
andlor discharge, integrity of 100-yr 24-hr drainage structures, and evidence of positive drainage).
No springs or seeps were observed on the refuse side slopes. Positive drainage is established
on all areas. Vegetation has been established on reclaimed areas with some tilling on more
sparsely vegetated areas. Drainage and diversion structures were intact with some sediment
accumulation noted on the west facing diversion ditch above and to the south of the water tank.
Underdrain construction has been completed.
Observation of Fill Construction: (Description of material, compaction, lift thicknesses,
slopes, and construction methods).
Structure has been completed to final grade. No additional material placement is anticipated.
