Spring Konitoring Report
Permit C-81-022
Dear Mr, Waldron:
During the 1992 review of Permit Revision No. 2, the Division
required SDSC to conduct an on-the-ground survey of the surface
area within the proposed Sanborn East Tract permit boundary to
verify and/or update the Western Slope Carborn spring and seep
data previousl; submitted. Also, the Division required a
moritorir.~ program for the eleven springs monitored previously by
the Hawks Vest Mine.
The Division stated: "This monitoring data is valuable in
characteri~in~ the seasonal fluctuations of the springs in the
area that will be mined. The Somerset Mine should have resumed
monitoring these springs to establish a correlation between the
old data and what is occ~.irring c~.irrently. In lieu of this, the
mine should conduct a spring and seep survey next year and
compare this data with that already collected. This will be
necessary to establish the baseline. The baseline will be used
to see if the proposed mining activity will have a detrimental
impact on the springs. Somerset should submit an interpretation
of the correlation of the monitoring results of the new data.
This should be incorporated into the permit's statement of
probable h~:drolo~ical consequences. The Somerset Mine should
also comet it to a monitoring' plan that will monitor these springs
during subsidence. T!ze following is a suggested monitoring plan
and schedule for submittal of information.
