l~
• ~ III III III III IIII III
STATE OF COLORADO
Roy Romer, Governor
C~St~~ c'~~~
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
FRED R. BANTA. Dlrsetor
March 2, 1988
Mr. Murari Shrestha, Senior Engineer
Western Fuels-Utah, Inc.
405 Urban Street, Suite 305
Lakewood, Colorado 80228
Re: Subsidence Monitoring, Deserado Mine Permit No. C-81-018
Dear Mr. Shrestha:
Enclosed is an in-house memo from Jim Pendleton of our staff regarding the
Interim Subsidence Monitoring Report submitted to our office in November,
1987. As discussed on page 2 of the memo, the Division would notify Western
Fuels regarding possible amendments to approved mine plan if any "major
problems" were encountered in the subsided area(s) based on visual inspections
of the affected area(s) by Mined Land Reclamation Division during the fall of
1987 and spring of 1988. The division has made visual inspections of the
subsided areas during the 4th quarter 1987 and 1st quarter 1?88 complete
inspections and no "major problems" have been observed. Therefore, it does
not appear at the present time that any amendments to the Longwall mining plan
are warranted. Mining can progress to the second Longwall panel in accordance
with the approved schedule.
The memo also indicates that a subsidence monitoring survey will be conducted
above room and pillar panel RP-5. However, it appears that development of the
panel has not taken place as originally scheduled in the approved permit. P.s
such, Western Fuels should provide the Division with an amended development
schedule for panel RP-5 and include a revised subsidence monitoring survey for
the affected area. This information should be submitted as a minor revision
to the approved permit.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Tom D.
