i•
•
2001 Annual Hvdroloaic Report Paae 3
about 75 gpm. Data page SD-15 presents the results of weekly monitoring on Outfall 001.
The 2001 full suite water analysis results are shown on data page SN-7.
Discharge point 002 is water siphoned from the reclaimed Northwest Intake Portal at the
Roadside South Portals. Mine inflows that were not pumped to the preparation plant were
routed to an abandoned portion of the mine for discharge from this point. The preparation
plant was shut down during December 1999 so all mine inflows in excess of those handled
by outfall 001, flow north to the lower portion of the mine where they are handled by the
siphon, outfall 002. Data page SE-10 presents a listing of water quality monitoring
performed at this site during the Year. Data page SO-7 includes a full suite analysis
performed on a sample collected during 2001. The average TDS was about the same as
last year. The following table presents the average TDS measurements for outfall 002 for
the last four water years.
Average TDS from Pages SE-7 -- SE-10
Water Year 1998 1999 2000 2001
TDS (mg/I) 1674 1558 1560 1500
Discharge point 004, discharge from the Roadside North Portal did not have any
discharge. It is unlikely this discharge point will have any further discharge since the
North Portal was sealed on February 10, 2000.
Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) tests were continued this Year. The acute test involves
subjecting fathead minnows to various dilutions of effluent in receiving water for 4 days
and subjecting Ceriodaphnia dubia to various dilutions for 2 days. The tests look
primarily at mortality during the test period. Data page SL-4 includes summaries of the
percent survival at the individual effluent dilution ratios for the Year. Discharge from
outfall 001 and 002 are combined proportional to the total discharge for the previous
month to form one sample. The survival rates for all samples taken this Year were in
compliance with the discharge permit requirements.
Ground Water
The ground water monitoring points on Cottonwood and Rapid Creeks were monitored
twice during the Year. Results of the monitoring are listed on data page GA-2.
Diagrams G01-1 thru 3 show a graphical representation of the depth to water these
