• a <br />-2- <br />[vucla Pit <br />This pit sees little use at the present time except that Montrose County <br />and the Colorado Department of Highways have been using the pit area for <br />an equipment and road oil and gravel stockpile yard. We are contemplat- <br />ing lea~ic~ an adjoining parcel of'Z.and `rom BLM for a gravel pit at which <br />time I would think we would complete some reclamation of the original <br />pit and slowly faze it out. <br />Collins Pit :aish ;1 <br />Watkins Pit Menoken Bridge <br />Gleason Pit Bedrock <br />Mitchel Pit <br />These pits are inactive and in some cases we are in the process of <br />completing reclamation work. The Watkins pit is owned by Montrose County <br />and is currently being used as an equipment storage yard. The Bedrock pit <br />was purchased by the U. S. Department of Reclamation as a part of deep <br />injection Well Salinity Control program. We have completed some reclama- <br />tion work and are currently meeting with their representatives for co- <br />ordination of further reclamation. We foresee asking for Inspection and <br />release of reclamation on the others. <br />One final comment. Our needs for "mining" operations do not seem typical <br />to us. Our mining activity is one of simply processing gravel in order to <br />provide services (specifically road maintenance) for Montrose County <br />citizens. With one exception all our pits are permited with you through <br />the 110 permit process (the other one through the 112 permit process). <br />We will never use more than 10,000 cubic yards of gravel from anyone pit in <br />a year. However, we see our need in these pits for an extended period of <br />time. Is there a permit process which gives us a permit with reclamation <br />established but without expiration dates? <br />Sincerely, <br />Patrick T.
