Lamm
Governor
DATE: June 24, 1986
T0: Deserado Mine - File No. C081-018
FROM: Michael S. Savage ILSs
RE: TELEPHONE CONVERSATION WITH STEVE DOUGHERTY OF ERO ASSOCIATES
On June 24, 1986 about 8:30 a. m., I spoke with Steve Dougherty of ERO
Associates regarding Western Fuels proposal to reduce the slopes on their
refuse disposal areas from 5:1 (H:Y) to 3:1. Mr. Dougherty requested what
information the Division would require to approve the proposal with respect to
feasibility of revegetation. I told Mr. Dougherty that the Division would
require several growing seasons' data on cover (by species), productivity,
woody plant density, and species diversity on areas reclaimed to 3:1 and 5:1
slopes and that these would need to be compared to similar "reference areas"
not disturbed by mining. ERO would propose identifying "reference areas"
other than what Deserado already has since those do not have such slopes.
Additionally, ERO would propose double sampling for productivity. I told Mr.
Dougherty that the Division did not favor double sampling but that we would
review the proposal.
Mr. Dougherty stated that ERO would be submitting a proposal for the projected
study to Western Fuels for submittal and review by the Division prior to
initiation. I endorsed this idea.
/dim
1654E
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel. (303) 866-3567
