• 2001 ANNUAL HYDROLOGY REPORT
i •
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The following Annual Hydrology Report (AHR) presents hydrologic monitoring data from the Twenrymile Coal
Comparry (TCC) site in Oak Creek, Colorado for the 2001 water yeaz. Site locations are described below. This
AHR is provided in fulfillment of reporting requirements under the Colorado State Division of Minerals and
Geology (DMG) Permit No. C-82-056. Unless otherwise indicated, al] references to "2001" in this report refer to
the 2001 Water Year (October 1, 2000 through September 3Q 2001). Monitoring results for prior water yeazs
are presented in previous AHRs, although selected historical data (period of record - POR) is summarized in
some of the tables and figures within this AHR
Following a discussion of Site Location and Backgound, this AHR provides a section on the TCC 2001
Hydrologic Monitoring Program, which in turn is divided into eight subsections:
1) Bedrock goundwater monitoring,
2) Alluvial goundwater monitoring,
3) Surface water monitoring,
4) Natwal springs monitoring,
5) Spoil springs monitoring,
6) Mine water discharge sites monitoring,
7) CDPS discharge sites monitoring, and
8) Mine inflow monitoring.
Next follows a section discussing Subsidence Impacts for two local creeks (Foidel and Middle Creeks), and lastly
a Summary and Conclusions section. Tables and Figures aze located at the back of this AHR
2.0 SITE LOCATION AND BACKGROUND
The TCC Foidel Creek Mine site is located approximately 25 Holes southwest of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, at
the south end of Twentymile Park (see Figure 1). This is an active underground coal mining operation, having
affeected a cumulative total of about 6,500 acres in south Routt County through 2001. Since 1995, TCC mining
has affected on the order of 1,100 acres per year. The primary TCC surface facilities cover approximately 1000
acres, including discharge pond and railroad loadout areas. The Foidel Creek Mine portals and surface facility
areas are bordered by strip mine spoils from the former Colorado Yampa Coal Comparry (CYCC). Trench and
berm rockfall mitigation so'uctures, located north of the primary TCC facilities, cover approximately 30 acres.
The coal refuse pile at TCC covers approximately 70 acres. Other associated satellite TCC support facilities
contribute an additional 10 to IS acres. The associated Fish Creek Tipple site is located approximately 20 miles
southwest of Steamboat Springs at the north end of Twentymile Park, covering an area of approximately 15 acres.
