Mr. Larry M. Reschke
-5-
II. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE AHR'S AND MONITORING

September 5, 1985
Next year, things which need to be included in the report include:
A. A larger map (1" = 1000' scale perhaps) detailing the locations of
the ground and surface water monitoring sites. This new map should
include the labeled locations of all monitoring sites, including the
Nelson Ditch and Spring No. 5 which are not included in the present
map.
B. Height of the casing at each well and piezometer, and ground surface
elevation.
C. Diagram depicting the water levels in the sediment pond and sediment
pond piezometers. This would best be shown as cross sections (drawn
to scale) for each quarter. Water level elevations need to be
included.
D. Potentiometric surface map overlying a contour map of the refuse
disposal area.
E. A rating curve should be constructed for the lower Ward Creek
station so that flow may be reported rather than the sites' gage
height.
F. Measurements of drainage basins should be done on the same day,
starting at the upstream site and working down.
G. Discharge measurements at Nelson Ditch should be made whenever
sampling is done.
H. Spring No. 5 should be visited on a regular basis and sampled as per
the permit requirements.
III. MONITORING REDUCTION REQUEST
Recommendations are as follows:
A. Refuse Piezometers - Quarterly water levels, field parameters and an
annual full suite ground water quality analysis from piezometers
R-1, R-3 and R-6, which will be taken in June. Piezometers R-2, R-4
and R-5 will be measured for depth to water on a quarterly basis.
Any persistent springs or seeps should be noted on a map of the pile.
B. Pond Piezometers - Monthly water levels and semi-annual field
parameters on piezometers P-1 and P-3. Field parameters will be
measured in June and October. If an unusual increase in water level
is noted in any piezometers, field parameters will be measured
monthly. Piezometer P-4 may be dropped from the monitoring program.
C. Coal Seam Completions - Quarterly water levels and semi-annual field
parameters on Wells D-l, E-1 and F-1. Field parameters will be
measured in June and October.
