30
natural causes, sampling error, or~Changes in laboratory procedures. The most
noticeable change has been an increase in molybdenum and copper for vegetation
in the area surrounding the Henderson mill or tailing pond. Both of these
constituents are also very concentrated in tailing. Che might, therefore,
ic~plicate the fugitive dust fran the milling process or tailing as the
causative factor for the increased concentrations. However, a careful
coaparison of data from the various sas~ple locaticns in both 1979 and 1985
indicates that no apparent trend exists for these two ccnstituents with
respect to distance or direction fran the milling operation and with the
prevailing wind pattern. These changes might, therefore, be related to
natural events occurring within the sailed cam~aiities. However, th.e changes
do warrant continued nnnitorinq of soils and vegetation in the future. This
study should be repeated within three to five years to detezndne whether the
trend in increasing concentrations of some chemical constituents continues,
and whether a more definitive distance or directional trend exists.
