Additional Page
1999-2000 Annual Report
Table Mountain Quarry
M-1999-004
Castle Concrete Company
Anniversary Date: June 25
Overview of Permit Year: During the 1999-2000 operating year production began at this site. The access
road was extensively upgraded. The initial processing and stockpile area was utilized until facilities at the
quarry were established. Mining began around the perimeter of the previously existing quarry. No land was
reclaimed.
Annual Report Maps: The two annual report maps show the primary areas of activity. Map I shows the
entire permit area and the general location of activity. Map 2 shows the specific area of the mine.
Affected Lands: The amount of affected land was totally within the permit area. The pre-permit affected
land area was slightly expanded with some additional stripping to the west of the existing mine. No
expansion northward occurred. Within the plant and stockpile area the scale and shop was established as
well as the fuel facility which is fully bermed. The processing plant was constructed on top of the wall
established by the previous operator. Some pre-permit stockpiles were removed, but most of the stockpiling
occurred where the previous operator stockpiled material. Map 2 shows the layout of the site. The total
affected land is approximately 25 acres, including the initial processing and stockpile area which was
temporarily closed near the end of the year. That area will be used again in the future.
High Plains Stone Area: Map 1 shows an area northeast of the initial processing and stockpile area that
has been disturbed. This land was disturbed by High Plains Stone and was in use prior to permitting. High
Plains Stone is another lessee on Table Mountain. It is not known how long High Plains Stone will
continue to utilize this area. It is identified on the map so as to establish a record that the disturbances in
this area were not made by Castle Concrete and are not the responsibility of Castle Concrete. However,
Castle is considering leasing this quarter, quarter section from the BLM.
Future Plans: Mining during the next year will continue within the stripped area. It is not anticipated
that additional land will be stripped, but it is possible that some will need to be stripped late in the next
permit year.
Castle Concrete has leased a portion of the SE '/a of Section 15 (located to the north of Phase 1)
from the BLM. This will be added to the permit in the future by means of an amendment. The advantage
of acquiring this lease is that access to Phase 2 can now be accomplished directly from Phase 1 without the
need to construct any new roads to the Phase 2 area that would disrupt the visual characteristics of the crest
of Table Mountain. The amount of reserve added is not great, but is significant. More important is that
with the addition of this piece of land the entire operation will become much easier to mine with
significantly less environmental impact. It is not known when that amendment will be submitted.
Bonding: This operation is covered by a corporate bond.
Castle Concrete 2000 Annual Report M-1999-004 Table Mountain Quarry Page 1 of 1
