• pH levels ranged from 6.9 to 7.9 from 1982 to 1986, with the highest level being
below 8.8. The general trend for pH values shows that they are well within acceptable
ranges and do not indicate either high acid or base levels.
Electroconductivity values are higher in winter during low flow. This is due to a
relative increase in cation concentration due to decreased solute volume during this time
of year. Total dissolved solids and the sodium adsorption ratio are high in the late fall
during low flow. Total suspended solids are high in the late fall and winter, also
during the period of ]ow flow. When less water is flowing from the springs there is
less dilution of total and suspended solids.
The consistency of the sampling data from 1982 to the present indicates that Carbon
Junction mine has had no effect on the springs in the region.
RESULTS - WELL WATER DATA FROM 1982 THROUGH 1995
Depth to water for ground water wells at Carbon Junction Mine has remained
consistent since 1982. This consistency indicates that there has been no effect due to
the presence of the mine on the level of ground water in the vicinity of the mine.
Most trace metal concentrations have been low. Concentrations have remained
• consistent throughout the sampling period. This indicates that there has been no change
in concentration levels due to the limited mining from the site.
The temperature changes indicate that the temperature is greater in the shallow wells in
the summer because the air and ground temperature is greater, and the temperature is
lower in the winter due to lower air and ground temperature.
pH levels ranged from between 6.6 to 8 from 1982 to 1986, with the highest level
being below 8.5 and the lowest level being above 6.2. The general trend for pH values
shows that they are well within acceptable ranges and do not indicate either high acid
or base levels.
Most of the testing for electroconductivity has been done within the last three years.
During that time the results have remained consistent for each well tested. Total
dissolved solids for each well tested have also remained consistent throughout the
testing period.
The overall results for well testing data are consistent from 1982 to the present. This
can be attributed to the fact that little significant disturbance has occurred on the site.
Disturbance on the mine site will most likely continue to be minimal in the near future.
•
4
