<br />-3- <br />and it shows that the water level measured at this location has <br />remained fairly constant since monitoring began in 1981. <br />No impacts to the Twentymile Sandstone aquifer have been predicted as <br />a result of mining .(Section 3.4.7.3 of permit application). <br />Monitoring of the Twentymile Sandstone aquifer is being conducted to <br />verify that prediction. <br />1.1.4 White Sandstone <br />The White Sandstone lies approximately 130 feet above the No. 9 Mine <br />(permit application, Page III-48). Water levels for the three <br />monitor wells completed in this unit (Wells 81-03a, <br />81-04 a, and 81-19) are presented on figures 7 through 9 of the <br />report. The 1983 piezometric levels in the White Sandstone indicate <br />that the No. 9 Mine may not be effecting this unit to the degree <br />estimated in the permit application (Page 2 of the report). The <br />water levels in Wells 81-03a and 81-19 rose sightly and the water <br />level in Well 81-04a declined only minimally during the year. This <br />stabilization of water levels may be due to the lack of mining <br />advancement in the No. 9 Mine. <br />1.1.5 Alluvium <br />Cumulative water level plots for five Yampa River alluvial wells and <br />six Williams Fork alluvial wells are given on Figures 14 and 15 of <br />the report. Piezometric maps for December 1983 data are presented on <br />Figures 16 and 17. This information indicates that no major changes <br />in ground water levels within the alluvial bodies have occurred with <br />the exception of normal seasonal fluctuations. The largest observed <br />change was a water level decline of approximately 7 feet from May to <br />September, 1983 at Williams Fork alluvial well AVF-4 (Figure 15 of <br />the report). No adverse impacts to alluvial water levels have been <br />predicted as a result of mining operations. <br />1.1.6 Springs <br />five springs at the mine site were monitored during 1983. These are <br />the Williams Fork No. 1 Strip Pit Discharge (NPDES Discharge Point <br />022), the South Spring, East Spring, North Spring and Lippard Spring <br />II. The 1983 measured discharge for the No. 1 Strip Pit is presented <br />on Figure 20 and the discharges for the other springs are presented <br />in Table 24. <br />The historical record of discharge from the No. 1 Strip Pit presented <br />in Figure III-17L of the permit application does not vary <br />significantly from the pattern for 1983 discharge shown on Figure <br />
