- 10 -
listing the monitoring data in this fashion, the data can quickly
and easily be scanned, for any trends or variations in the data
set. Also, each time the current year's monitoring results are
added to the list, this data can quickly be compared to previous
year's data and yearly summary tables and plots of particular
parameters of interest can easily be generated or updated. This
method of reporting is somewhat repetitive in that the same raw
data is available in the quarterly hydrologic monitoring reports
that Empire is required to submit to the Division. However, it is
much more efficient, in terms of review and evaluation of the data,
if it is all located in one document.
3. On page 6 of the report, Empire indicated a desire to eliminate
selected chemical parameters (listed in Table 43) from the
hydrologic monitoring program. Evaluation of this request will be
made through the Technical Revision process once the water quality
data are compiled into chronological lists (as discussed above) in
the upcoming annual hydrologic report.
4. Minor discrepancies in two of the summary tables were noted during
the review. In Table 8 (page 1 of 2), the mean TDS concentration
is reported as 430 mg/L, but the range is reported as 66 to 292
mg/L. In Table 20 (page 1 of 2), the mean pH for 62 samples is
reported as 7.75, but the range is from 7.75 to 9.72. A specific
response to these discrepancies is not required; however, Empire
should be aware of them in the event these tables are used in the
future.
Since this is the first Annual Hydrologic Report to be submitted to
the Division for this operation, a fairly thorough review of the
report has been made. It is intended that EEC will consider the
approaches to data analysis and interpretation outlined in this
document for upcoming Annual Hydrologic Reports. For future Annual
Hydrologic Report submittals, the Division requests two copies (one
working copy and one file copy), and two copies should be sent to
the OSM Western Technical Center.
If there are any questions, comments or if any errors are noted in this
review, please bring them to our attention.
Si erely ~
Jo, eph W. Oliver
clamation Specialist
JWO/fw
cc: Mr. Richard Holbrook, OSM (w/enclosures)
Doc. No.7985
