Walther
Executive Director
Michael B. long
Division Director
The Division has finished its review of the 2000 Annual Report submitted by Bowie Resources
Limited (BRL). This letter is divided into three sections that correspond with the three sections of
the annual report.
2000 Annual Hvdroloev Report
The Division agrees with BRL's assessment that the data does not show that there have been any
negative impacts to water quality and water quantity due to mining activities at the Bowie No. 2
Mine. This conclusion is based on a review of hydrologic data from surface water and ground
water monitoring stations. The surface water monitoring sites include ponds, streams, the North
Fork of the Gunnison River, irrigation canals and springs. The ground water monitoring sites
include drill holes and alluvial wells.
The Division appreciates the modifications that BRL made to the presentation format for the
hydrologic tables. Having minimum, maximum and average values for the baseline data and for
the operational period data in each table helps in the analyses of the data. Also, using the
"<MDL" symbol (less than minimum detection limit) avoids confusion as to whether or not a
chemical parameter was tested.
BRL also provided responses to the Division's adequacy review letter for the 1999 Annual
Hydrology Report (AHR). The Division agrees with BRL's responses and has no further
concerns.
