1995 Annual Reclamation Report -Raton Creek Mine
Page 2
Tonsoiled Areas
Topsoil material was distributed on approximately 1.5 acres of the mine yard area at an
average thickness of 2 inches. The soil was placed and worked with a disc into the existing
red ash surface material prior to revegetation. Approximately 400 CCY of soil material was
excavated from the bench adjacent to the sediment pond to create a disposal area for pond
cleanings. Areas of the yard that received topsoil are shown on the accompanying 1995
Annual Reclamation Map.
Revegetated Areas
EFMC revegetated all of the Mine Site disturbed area during late spring, and in the fall
seeding periods. Application of the permanent seed mix, scheduled for the spring seeding
window, was delayed due to unusually wet conditions during and after the window. When
ground conditions improved, EFMC planted a cover crop and re-scheduled permanent seeded
to the fall.
EFMC planted a cover crop of Sorghum Sudangrass in late spring. Seed specifications are
shown on attached Table 2, Seed Specifications. Seeding was completed on all disturbed
areas, totalling approximately 26 acres. The areas are shown on the accompanying 1995
Annual Reclamation Map.
During the fall seeding window, EFMC planted the approved seed mixture on all disturbed
areas as in the spring, again totalling approximately 26 acres. Information about the seed
mixture is shown on attached Table 2, Seed Specifications. Location of revegetated areas,
shown on the accompanying map, were the same for spring and fall seeding work.
Previously Revegetated Areas
No previously revegetated areas exist at the site.
Backfilled. Graded. Topsoiled. and Revegetated Areas Summary
Reclamation activities during the reporting period, completed according to the approved
reclamation plan, are listed on attached Table 1, 1995 Mine Site Reclamation Summary.
Conclusions
EFMC completed revegetation, topsoiling, and all remaining regrading at the Raton Creek
Mine during the reporting period. Reclamation of the disturbed areas continues to effectively
minimize the impacts of the operation and promote establishment of the site to its approved
postmining land use capabilities.
