• chazacterized with calcium and sulfate as the dominant cation and anion respectively. Well FO-4 exhibits
sodium and sulfate as the dominant ions.
Fish Creek Alluvial Groundwater: During 1997, five Fish Creek alluvial wells (006-AY-1, 006-AZ-3, 006-
AW-2, 008-AU-3 and 008-AW-3) required monitoring for water levels and field parameters on a monthly basis,
and water quality sampling on a quarterly basis. A bent casing at well 006-AW-2 prevented the collection of
field pazameter data in October and November. Repairs to the well were competed December 12, 1996 with
sampling resuming on December 16. Tables 26 through 30 provide summaries of the 1997 Water Year data
collected at each site. Tables 26a through 30a provide period of record statistical summaries of collected data at
each site. Figwes 48 through 57 provide graphical representations of water levels and selected water quality
pazameters recorded at each site.
Water levels at well 006-AY-1, located on Fish Creek upstream of [he Southwest Mining District and Mine 2,
had exhibited a relatively steady increase from approximately 1990 through 1994 (see Figwe 48). Since 1995,
water levels have been more erratic and that trend has reversed. The maximum fluctuation in water level at this
site over the period of record is 7.5' to date. Well 006-AZ-3 is situated downstream of 006-AY-1 and below the
Fish Creek Borehole. Well 006-AZ-3 is monitored in conjunction with surface water site 307 and the water
level relationship is presented as Figwe 50. Further downstream, well 006-AW-2 and surface water site 1002
aze monitored and water levels are plotted as Figwe 52. Again in 1997, the interrelationship between alluvial
• groundwater and surface water is evident on these two plots. Well 008-AU-3 and surface water site 305 monitor
water levels upstream from the Fish Creek Tipple area with data presented on Figwe 54. The furthest
downgadient Fish Creek alluvial monitoring well is 008-AW-3 (Figwe 56) located neaz the Fish Creek Tipple.
No unusual water level fluctuations were noted at any of these sites during 1997.
New minimum field tempera[wes were recorded at wells 008 AU-3 and 008-AW-3 in January, at well 006-AY-
1 in February, and 006-AZ-3 in Mazch. Elevated ammonia readings first detected in August of 1995 were
sustained throughout 1997, with new maximum values being recorded at wells 006-AZ-3 AND 006-AW-2.
Additionally, at well 006-AZ-3, new maximum values were recorded for lab cenductivity, TDS, hazdness,
dissolved calcium, and ortho-dissolved phosphorous. At well 006-AW-2 a detectable concentration of mercury
established a new maximum value. New maximum values were also recorded for SAR and nitrite, while a new
minimum value was recorded for laboratory pH. Anew maximum dissolved manganese value was recorded in
November at Well 008-AW-3. Other monitored water quality pazameters returned values at the Fish Creek
alluvial wells typically within previously established ranges during 1997.
Trout Creek Alluvial Groundwater During 1997, one Trout Creek alluvial monitoring well (008-AT-1)
required monitoring for water levels and field parameters on a monthly basis, and water quality sampling on a
quarterly basis. All monitoring requirements were met at this site. Table 31 provides a summary of the 1997
• Water Yeaz data collected. Figwes 58 and 59 provide graphical representations of water level and field
-7-
