STE FFEN ROGER LSON AND KIR$iEN
' Progress Report
October 2, 1992
' Page 2
' The split spoon samples were driven by hand in the field, sealed in their brass containers with
plastic caps at both ends and carefully returned to the Denver lab. Upon arrival at the Denver
lab, the samples were carefully opened, trimmed where needed, weighed, measured for their size
' (height and diameter for volume talcs.), emptied, dried to a constant weight, weighed again and
calculated for moisture content. The total volume of the sample and its wet weight were
calculated for the converted weight per cubic foot, then the moisture content was calculated out
' of the equation giving a final answer of dry weight per cubic foot.
The clear plastic tube samples were pushed by hand in the field after marking the surface of the
' tailings being sampled. These samples were brought from the field in 2-ft bng plastic tubes
sealed at both ends with baggies and duct tape. Upon arrival in Denver, the samples were
unsealed, weighed and emptied of the tailings, the portion marking the depth of tube penetration
was measured to the nearest 64th of an inch, the wet tailings sample was repmeasured, dried
back to a constant weight, re-weighed, then calculated for moisture content. The total volume
of the sample and its wet weight were calculated for the converted weight per cubic foot, then
' the moisture content was calculated out of tfie equation giving a final answer of dry weight per
cubic foot.
ENN ~~~ R
