LJ
STEEPEN ROBERTSON AND KiRS7EN

M1tE~~tORANDUM
I,
TO: Rob Dorey
FROM: Kent Peter
DATE: October 26, 1992
'
RE: Report of Test Results for San Luis Tailings Densities
' (SRK Project No. 14715)
This report summarizes test results for surficial beach density values obtained during the period
of October l through October Z, 1992.
' Mr. Glenn Guyer's field and laboratory test procedure report is attached. In general, l3 density
tests were performed in the upper impoundment, and 4 density tests were obtained in the lower
impoundment. Due to the very soft conditions of the lower impoundment, we were not able to
obtain the number of tests as originally planned.
The approximate test locations are presented on Figure 1. In six locations, mode than one test
' was performed, such as location No. 3, where tests were taken at Q to 5 inches, 4 to 8 inches,
and 8 to 12 inches. The types of density tests performed aze shown in the righthand column of
Table 1, testing summary.
Of the l3 tests performed within the upper impoundment, an average dry density of 85.4 pcf
was calculated. The range of density values to obtain the average were from 79.7 pcf to 93.5
pct. The average moisture content was 20.7 percent. As shown on Table 1, density values in
general increased with depth,
' Within the lower impoundment, the average calculated dry density was 85.5 pcf with a range
of 81.4 pcf to 90.6 pcf. The average moisture content of these tests was 22.1 percent.
IJ
1

' HKP/bl
