File No. 79-177.
Dear Mr. Mathews:
Colorado Yampa Coal Company (CYCC) is requesting a cancellation of CYCC's
Quarterly Inspection Permit; Excess Spoil Disposal Areas I and II.
Since January 1981, the firm of CTL Thompson, Inc., consulting geotechni-
cal and materials engineers, has conducted quarterly inspections of the excess
spoil disposal areas in conformance with 2 CCR 407-2, Section 2.09.1(11). The
purpose of the inspections was to look for evidence of slope instability and
to judge if the spoil had been placed in general conformance with the design.
After four years of quarterly inspections by CTL Thompson, Inc., CYCC
feels that the information shows both sites to be stable with no evidence of
slope failure; therefore, CYCC requests a cancellation of the Quarterly In-
spection Permit, effective March 1, 1985. No additional material will be
placed in either area and both areas have been topsoiled and seeded.
Please contact me if you have any further questions or concerns over this
matter.
Sincerely,
Rick H ghes "
Environmental Specialist
RH/kmk
cc: M.
