E. Stover &
Associates. on behalf of the Bowie No. 2 Mine. This report responds to the Division's direction
to Bowie Resources Limited to re-analyze [he GOB pile [o determine the slope stability
consequences of having placed a layer of spoil material from the ventilation shaft within the
GOB pile.
Norm Johnston, P.E. of Lambert & Associates reports that an appropriate sample of [he
ventilation shaft spoil was collected and analyzed to determine its strength parameters. These
strength parameters were then used to complete an analysis reflecting the inclusion of a 2-foot
[hick layer of spoil material at the observed elevation. Mr. Johnston reports that the impact of
the spoil inclusion was to lessen the resultant slope stability factor of safety by 2%, resulting in a
factor of safety still in excess of [he required 1.5.
Being familiar with Mr. Johoston's expertise in completing analyses of this sort, and specifically
with the pile in question, I accept Norm's letter report as sufficient evidence to recommend the
Division's approval of the stability analysis. For completeness, however, Lambert & Associates
should submit a copy of the actual analysis printout for documentation within the file.
cc: Larry Rou[ten
doc: M:\CoaIVAP\bow2vent.wpd
JP/jP
