Site Reclamation Activity
April 2004 - March 2005
Page 6
MONITORING - Discussion of Water Quality Monitoring Results
1) Mayflower Millsite area
The Animas River monitoring results continue to exhibit
increased zinc and manganese concentrations between
upstream and downstream monitoring points although the
differential appears to have been reduced as a result of the
completed diversions and reclamation projects.
EOMW2 results were at or below levels of metals observed in
the past while EOMWl appears to have elevated concentrations,
possibly due to the power plant tailings removal project.
2) American Tunnel area
Cement Creek monitoring reflects some improvement due to the
effect of the water treatment plant through September 2004
when the plant was operated by Gold King. After that time the
concentrations are similar with some elevation between the
upstream and downstream points.
• The seep ATS2, originally from the toe of the American Tunnel
waste dump, has either relocated or dried up. The seep ATS1
appears to have disappeared or relocated due to the
reclamation of the waste dump.
3) Terry Tunnel/Lake Emma
Eureka Creek monitoring above the Terry Tunnel continues to
show the same level of improvement as compared to previous
years, although the June sample results were higher than
normal.
