Henderson Mine SPCC/MCP May 1999
(4) If a potentially reportable spill occurs on any shift, it must be reported as
soon as possible to the Environmental Site Coordinator, who will contact the
Environmental Affairs Manager and the appropriate state and federal ag~_ncies, as
necessary. A list of telephone numbers for spill reporting is given in Appendix C.
Downstream water users within five miles of the Henderson Mine or Urad Mine:site must
be notified if a spill might affect them. The only known downstream users within five
miles of these sites aze part-time recreational users (i.e., campers). Because of retention
times and control points in ponds and settlers, it is very unlikely that such notification
will be necessary.
6.0 MATERIALS STORED ONSITE
Petroleum products, hazardous substances (as defined and quantified by EPA), and other
non-hazardous materials used at the Henderson Mine and Urad Minesite aze lis~:ed in the
following table and aze explained in detail in this section. A List of hazardous
Substances and Reportable Quantities is provided in Appendix B.
The Henderson Mine and Urad Minesite store and use bulk quantities of non-hazardous
substances, that if spilled in sufficient volume, could potentially be an environrnental
threat to receiving waters. These substances include ammonium nitrate and fuel oil preps
(ANFO), concrete, concrete accelerant, concrete plasticizer, flocculent, quicklime, and
untreated mine water. A brief description of these non-hazardous materials is provided in
the narrative which follows.
Neither the table below nor the list in Appendix B includes lab chemicals ;md other
substances kept on site in very small quantities or chemicals purchased for a single one-
time use. Such small-volume chemicals are unlikely to reach "Waters of t}ie United
States" due to their distance from water, container volume, container packaging, or
storage location (e.g., paint storage locker, flammable storage cabinet, or self-~:ontained
spill control pallets).
