C-82-OSS Natural Resource Trustee
Mr. Patterson:
The Division of Minerals and Geology has completed review of the 2002 Annual Hydrology
Report (AHR) for the Raton Creek Mine.
Monitoring Freguencv
1. Text on page one and Figure 1 and Figure 2 seem to indicate that quarterly water level
and field parameters were collected. However, these data are not reflected in Table 2
and Table 3. Please revise the tables to include all data required to be collected and
reported.
2. Monitoring frequency, specific to laboratory sampling requirements, was met on a semi-
annual basis for the luppa well and the Refuse well.
Water Quantity and Quality
3. No significant changes attributable to mining have occurred regarding water levels in the
two monitoring wells. Water quality shows no degradation affecting any probable use.
Field conductivity (EC) values are noted substantially less (845 umhos/cm) than the total
dissolved solids (TDS) value of 1655 mg/I for the luppa well. A similar effect was noted
in the Refuse well. Normally, TDS is less than EC, with a ratio of about .75 as a general
rule of thumb. Again, the DMG requests that EFMC check the calibration of your field
equipment.
Thank you for your efforts to complete hydrologic monitoring in accordance with the approved
plan.
