and 13.21 percent relative cover. Eight additional species contributed significantly to
. cover this year, Oryropsis hymenoides accounted for 3.60 percent mean cover and 9.06
percem relative cover, Kochia scoparia (kochia) contributed 3.80 percem mean and 8.68
percent relative cover, Calrnnovilfa /orrgifolia provided 2.00 percent mean wver and 6.04
percem relative, Bromus marginatus accounted for 2.40 and 5.28 percem mean and
relative cover, Elymus junceus (Russian wildrye) comributed 2.40 percent mean and 4.91
percent relative cover, Poa compresses (Canada bluegrass) accounted for 2.00 percent
mean cover and 3.77 percent relative cover, Agropyron dasystachyum contributed 1.20
percent mean and 3.02 percent relative cover, and Agropyron intermedtum provided 0.60
percent mean cover and 3.02 percent relative cover.
Vegetative litter (prior years growth, dead wood, and other biologic organic material)
comprised 30.60 percent ground cover overall within the 1997 reclamation areas. Bare
soil comprised 25.80 percent of the ground cover. No rock or cryptogams were
encountered during the cover sampling in the 1997 reclamation areas.
3.1.3.2 Herbaceous Production
Total herbaceous production this year in the 1997 reclamation areas was the highest of
any area sampled at 163.05 g/m2 (1454 Ib/ac). Perennial grasses contributed significantly
to herbaceous production, with 131.44 g/m2 (1172 Ib/ac) or 80.6 percent of total
herbaceous production. Annual grasses contributed little to herbaceous production in this
area (6.15 g/m2 (55 lb/ac)). Annual forts accounted for the second highest contribution
• with 21.53 g/m2 (192 Ib/ac), 13.2 percem of the total mean herbaceous production.
Biemrial forts contributed 0.20 g/mz (2 lb/ac) or 0.1 percem of total herbaceous
production. Perennial forts provided 3.73 g/m2 (33 Ib/ac) or 2.3 percent of total
herbaceous production.
3.1.3.3 Species Composition
Cover sampling encountered two lifefonns and nineteen species within the 1997
reclamation areas. The lifeforms included eleven species of perennial grass, one annual
grass, two perennial, and five annual forts. Of the species encountered on the 1997
reclamation areas, twelve were native and seven were introduced. Perennial and biennial
species outnumbered annual species by thirteen to six. Both warm and cool season
species contributed to the seasonality of the 1997 reclamation areas. Cool season
graminoids outnumbered wane season species nine to three. Five fort species were
iderrtified as cool season and two were warm season.
The 1997 reclamation areas had eleven species comributing greater than three percent
relative cover including eight perennial grasses, one annual grass, and two annual forts.
These species included Agropyron smithii (23.02%), Bromus tectorum (14.34%),
Helianthus amuus (13.21%), Oryzopsis hymenoides (9.06%), Kcehia scoparia (8.68%),
Calamovilfa longtfolia (6.04%), B~omus marginatus (5.28%), Elymus junceus (4.91%),
Poa compresses (3.77%), Agropyron dasystachyum (3.02%), and Agropyron intermedium
. (3.02%).
Coors Energy Company Page 10
2008 Revegetatfon Monitoring Report
