Pitch Reclamation Project February 2002 <br />2002 Annual Reclamation Report Page 15 <br />4.7 Radioactive Materials License <br />The Radium Treatment Plant (RTP), its foundation, and sediments in Upper Indian Creek were <br />removed and placed into the Tie Camp disposal cell in 2001. Final grading and revegetation was <br />completed in 2002. With the removal of the RTP, radioactive source material and any processing <br />capacity have been removed. Small concentrations of the Radium 226 isotope remain in the <br />sediment deposited upstream of the sediment control embankment. <br />The Radioactive Materials License (RML) for the Pitch Project expires on March 31, 2003. <br />Homestake submitted an application for license renewal to the Colorado Department of Public <br />Health and Environment (CDPHE) on March 14, 2003 even though no processing capability or <br />radioactive source material remains on site. The renewed license will allow Homestake to manage <br />the sediment accumulating upstream of the sediment control embankment within the guidelines of <br />the permit. <br />A Copy of the 2002 RML report is provided in electronic Adobe Acrobat© Portable Document <br />Format on the CD attached to this report. <br />5.0 INSPECTIONS <br />Bob Oswald with the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, Division of Minerals and Geology, <br />conducted a site inspection on September 11`", 2002. No issues were identified during the <br />inspection, A copy of the inspection report is provided in Appendix B. <br />6.0 SURETY <br />Homestake maintains a reclamation surety performance bond for the Pitch Reclamation project in <br />the form of a financial guarantee bond with Safeco Insurance Company of America in the amount of <br />$2,263,000. A copy of the notification and surety form to DMG is provided as Appendix C. <br />7.0 RECLAMATION ACTIVITIES PLANNED FOR 2003 <br />In addition to the continued monitoring of pit slope stability and water quality, Homestake continues <br />' to move forward with final closure and reclamation of the Pitch Project. During 2003 the following <br />activities are planned: <br />' The placement of a clay cap on the Low Grade Ore Stockpile. <br /> • Monitorwaterrelease in accordance with the CWDPS permit; <br />t Conduct quarterly monitoring and reporting pursuantto the CWDPS permit at compliance <br /> point SW-33; <br />' Conduct annual surveys of the slope monitoring monuments; and <br /> • Monitor waste rock dumps and sediment control embankment. <br />' 2002_ RECLAMATION RPT.DOC <br />
