1983 ANNUAL RECLAMATION REPORT
CYCC MINES 1, 2, ECKMAN PARK AND MINE 3
This report addresses federal coal and associated private coal
' mining operations conducted by CYCC in Routt County Colorado, as
delineated by mine area on the enclosed maps titled CYCC Mines 1, 2,
Eckman Park and Mine 3 Reclamation.
' The method of mining employed at CYCC consists of a dragline type
operation. Topsoil is stripped by scrapers and segregated into topsoil
stockpiles or reapplied directly onto regraded mined surfaces. After the
' mining operation is completed, spoils are graded to approximately the
original contour and topsoil is replaced over the spoil material. A
seedbed is then prepared and planted during the summer and fall. Contour
' furrows are installed which help stabilize the site and enhance soil
moisture conditions. A detailed description of the cultural practices
employed as part of the reclamation process is presented in our Mining
' and Reclamation Plan (Permit No. 79-177) submitted on September 14, 1979.
The Mine 3 reclamation is presented in Permit 76-16; however, methods
used at Mine 3 have been upgraded to that of 79-177.
' Enclosed are three maps which delineate the mining areas which have
been disturbed by mining and the subsequent extent of reclamation. The
major catagories of disturbance are open pit and spoil, graded spoil,
topsoiled, and reseeded. As soon as conditions permit, graded areas will
be re topsoiled and reclamation will progress as approved in our
reclamation plan. The maps also show the number of acres, the date, and
the seed mixture which was planted for the area reseeded. Seed mixtures
' are presented in Table 5 as coded cn the reclamation maps.
A summary of the current and cummulative disturbance and reclamation
' data within Mine 1, 2 and Eckman Park permit boundaries ate presented in
Tables 1 and 2. This summary reveals that during the 1983 reporting
period 251.4 acres were disturbed by mining. The cummulative total
' number of acres disturbed as of December 31, 1983 is 2534.5 acres.
Reclamation progress during the 1983 reporting period accounted for 281.3
acres reseeded, A cummulative total of 1079.6 acres have been reseeded
or about 43 percent of the total disturbance. In addition, there are
' another 464.0 acres of graded spoil which have been recontoured, and in
the process, as conditions allow, of being retopsoiled and reseeded.
Also, there have been 18.5 acres topsoiled which will be seeded as soon
as possible in the 1984 season. The combined acreage of reseeded and
' recontoured sites brings the total number of acres reclaimed or in the
process of being reclaimed to 2000.5 acres or 79 percent of the total
disturbance. Acreages include both federal and private coal mining
operations and support facilities.
Mine 3 reclamation is proceeding under Permit 76-16 and is presented
' in Table 3. During 1983, 62.4 acres have been reseeded, with no
additional mining or reclamation activity taking place at Mine 3 during
1983.
1
