PHC: Partial dewatering will occur of the coal unit.
This was the case during mining, but the water levels have been steady since 1996.
Please note that the data for we1179-61 was either left off the diagram (Fig. 1) in the
current AHR or the overlapping symbols make it uncleaz if the triangle representing well
79-61 data is present. If the latter is the case, please take Gaze to resubmit that page and
clearly show the data for we1179-61.
PHC: Temporary drawdown will occur in areas adjacent to the mine.
This may have been the case during mining, but since operations ceased, groundwater
levels have remained consistent.
PHC: There will be a temporary increase in recharge rate after mining.
This appears to have occurred but has leveled off in the intervening ten years.
PHC: Leaching of soluble ions will occur in backfilled areas.
The dissolved solids in the bedrock units have been consistent or have reduced since the
late 1990s. Dissolved solids content of well 79-3 is by faz the highest with greater than
4000 mg/I TDS. This prediction appears to have occurred to some extent.
Dissolved solids in the alluvium of Mann Draw, draining the Pit 1 area, peaked several
years ago and TDS of that alluvial water has decreased in the last several years.
Water chemistry in the spoils has been consistent over the last four years with TDS
values being very similar to water typical of the coal seam from baseline data. T
The prediction has proven accurate.
PHC: Transport of dissolved salts will occur through bedrock units.
This is probably occurring.
Additional Comments:
1. Please explain the situation with groundwater we1179-3. The diagram shows no
historic values, only 2005 values.
2. Table 6 appears to be mislabeled. It should read "coal seam water"
