WEST ELK COAL COMPANY, INC.
SCOPE OF WORK AND SPECIFICATIONS
EXTENSION AND BACRFILL OF EXISTING SOLDIER
PILE RETAINING WALL
1.0 Project Description - The work consists of extending an
existing soldier pile retaiing wall in height, adding
waler, driving 6" X 6" W-beam pilings, installing cable
tiebacks, and installing compacted backfill behind the wall.
The retaining wall is located along the main mine access
road at the Mt. Gunnison mine site. The work on the
existing retaining wall will be done to the extent possible
concurrently with the construction of the soldier pile
retaining wall and waterline relocation below the mine
access road to the extent possible. The wall will be
extended 4 feet in height and lagged with treated wood
similar to the existing lagging. A series of steel walers
will be welded to the back of the wall to prevent the
soldier beams from spreading and to provide anchorage for
the cable tiebacks.
2.0 Project organization and Responsibilities - Same as that
stated for mine access road retaining wall and waterline
relocation.
3.0 Scope of Work and Specifications
3.1.1 Site Preparation - A CMP will be placed in the
shotcrete ditch and covered with fill a minimum of 1.5
feet above the top of the pipe. A ramp will be
constructed up the slope to allow equipment to access
the area behind the wall. One lane of the mine access
road will be kept open at all times.
