The scope of the proposed study is to prepare two alternatives
for mitigating the failure that would be acceptable to both
Cyprus and MLRD. The method of investigation and mitigation
design is outlined in the following sections of this proposal.
PROPOSED INVESTIGATION AND DESIGN
FIELD INVESTIGATION
We propose to visit the site and to document the site condi-
tions of the failure. This documention will use the topo-
graphic base obtained earlier by Cyprus. Further, detailed
surveying will be required during or immediately following
our site visit. During our visit, we will stake out import-
ant points that will later be surveyed by Cyprus.
Our field investigation will require
shallow test pits in the failure area
access road to the intermediate bench
prior to our visit. This access road
construction later in 1989.
MITIGATION DESIGN
excavation of several
with a backhoe. They will include methods of failure
mitigation discussed earlier in this proposal and other
methods that may be identified during our study. They also
will include simplified stability analyses of the slope
after the failure and after stabilization.
We propose to prepare these alternatives in a draft from,
together with approximate cost estimates. The alternatives
would be presented to Cyprus and MLRD for their evaluation.
Following the selection and approval of a suitable alter-
native, design drawings and specifications for construction
of the selected alternative will be prepared.
MEETINGS WITH CYPRUS AND MLRD
Two meetings have been scheduled with Cyprus and MLRD during
the proposed study: one meeting with Cyprus after the alter-
natives for failure mitigation are prepared, and one meeting
with MLRD prior to the preparation of the final set of the
failure mitigation drawings, and technical specifications.
REQUIREMENTS OF CYPRUS
This proposal assumes that Cyprus will provide CH2M HILL
with all necessary surveys required for the failure
DEN/40Y/020 5
